Following is an interview with Mary Amelia Taylor of Frisco City who graduated from Judson in June. She earned a double-major in history and English and received a full-tuition scholarship and stipend to graduate school.
Q: How did you decide to come to Judson College?
A: Ultimately I applied because I felt the Judson community cared about me and about helping me discover who God created me to be.
Q: What Judson distinctives are most important to you?
A: One of the greatest things I learned at Judson was how to think. My professors and my coursework constantly challenged me to make connections between disciplines, not just to study for a test. Being part of Judson’s all-female student population provided me with countless character-building leadership opportunities. Judson’s traditions encouraged building lifelong friendships with other students and alumnae.
Q: You were a student representative on the chapel committee. What impact did weekly worship have in your life?
A: Our weekly chapel was a great opportunity for faculty, staff and students to worship together. It was nice to have a time set aside to strengthen our faith so we can impact our world for God’s glory.
Q: Why would you recommend Judson to other young women?
A: If God leads a young woman to Judson, she’s likely to experience the greatest adventure of personal, intellectual and spiritual growth available to college women. The sisterhood one finds is like no other bond and, of course, the academics are top-notch.
Q: What are your plans now?
A: I’ll be heading to the University of Mississippi in Oxford this fall to start my master of arts degree in Southern studies. I can’t wait to see how God will work in me and through me there. (JC)
