Chantelle Wright of Conyers, Ga., was named “Miss Judson” at the pageant held Jan. 21.
Wright, a Judson freshman, sang “When You Believe” from “The Prince of Egypt” and was also named winner of the talent portion of the competition. She was given a $1,000 scholarship and $350 in cash awards.
“I’m so honored to be ‘Miss Judson’ 2005. Succeeding Gabrielle [Blankenship] has left me some pretty big shoes to fill,” she said.
“My mom, a 1978 graduate of Judson, has told me about this college my entire life and to have the opportunity to represent Judson is a dream come true,” she said. “As Miss Judson, I hope to raise awareness in youth about volunteer opportunities and the benefits of serving others.”
Wright is an English major. Upon her graduation she wants to be a campaign manager, a lawyer and a writer. Wright is also vice president of College Republicans.
Ashley Upton of Albertville was named first runner-up and winner of the swimsuit competition. She performed a clarinet solo in the talent portion of the pageant.
Wright will represent the college at the “Miss Alabama” pageant in June. (JC)
