Judson Equestrian Team Competes in First Shows of Year

The Judson College equestrian Western team competed in its first set of shows of the new season Oct. 10. The shows were hosted by North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega.

During the first show, Joy Hays, of Wetumpka, placed fourth in reining and in open. Jordyn Blackwell, of Grand Bay, placed fourth in advanced. Andrea Luckie, of Alexander City, placed second in novice. Corey Finlay, of Oxford, placed second; Heather Hodge, of Thomasville, placed fourth; and Samantha Marcella, of Cullman, placed sixth in intermediate. Sarah Dunn, of Frisco City, placed second in beginner.

In the second show, Hays placed third in reining and in open. She won the award for the reserve high point rider with these placements. Blackwell placed second in advanced. Luckie placed third in novice. Marcella placed first, Finlay placed fourth and Hodge placed sixth in intermediate. Dunn placed third in beginner.

Blackwell, Luckie and Finlay were competing in their first Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show. Overall the Judson team placed third for each show against North Georgia, Berry College, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of South Carolina – Aiken. 

The next competition was scheduled for Oct. 24–25 at Berry in Rome, Ga., and featured both Western and hunter seat competitions.
