Reporting to convention messengers Nov. 17 a “stellar” year for Judson College, President David Potts and the Book of Reports noted the past year as one of accomplishments.
Highlights of the past year include:
• Judson students serving as summer missionaries in Honduras and Mozambique, as well as many national locations.
• Judson’s annual Christian Emphasis Week, which featured Kay Warren of Saddleback Church in California, who spoke about AIDS ministry, the focus of her new book.
• The school’s sixth annual pastor’s conference in partnership with the office of LeaderCare and church administration of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, which featured a seminar led by Calvin Miller of Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School.
• The school’s new soccer program and upgraded Dunkin Athletic Park. The school also hosted its first Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show in a new riding arena.
• The school’s softball team finished fourth in the nation at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national tournament.
Potts also listed some of the historic accomplishments of Judson graduates, who were among the first missionaries to China and Japan and the first appointee by the North American Mission Board.
“Reaching the lost, reaching those who are hurting, is part of the DNA,” he said. “Named after Ann Judson, the first woman to go to a foreign country as a missionary — the Great Commission ministries are part of our DNA.”
To illustrate the school’s continued focus in the new century, he showed video clips in which students talked about the missions experiences they had while at Judson and how they have impacted future plans.
One of the featured students was Elizabeth Tucker from Locust Fork, who talked about a missions trip with a team of four girls and is now praying about being a short-term missionary. (TAB)
