Judson receives $1.5 million for updates, scholarships

Judson College has received $1.5 million for campus improvements and scholarships in the form of a grant from the Central Alabama Community Foundation-Mary Katherine Archibald Blount Fund.

A major portion of the grant will be used for renovations in the Blount Student Center, which will be renamed the Mary Katherine Archibald Blount Student Union Building. These renovations will include a counseling center, the office of service-learning and an intimate theater for dramatic arts, musical performances, movies and campus ministries events.

Additionally the renovations will include wireless computer “hotspots” throughout the building, a student recreation area and an expanded post office and bookstore.

The gift also provides an additional endowment for the Mary Katherine Archibald Blount Scholarship Fund. The balance of the grant will go to the Judson Annual Fund.

Blount graduated from Judson in 1942 and remained an active alumna until she died in 1999. (JC)
