The Judson College Equestrian Team competed March 4–5 at a two-day western and hunt seat show hosted by Berry College near Rome, Ga. This was its last Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) show of the 2005–2006 season.
Team members Jennifer Hayes, Christy Spearman and Lauren Stephens qualified for the IHSA Zone 5 Region 2 Championship Show at Berry March 25. The Judson team won Western High Point Team the first day of competition, with Hayes winning Reserve High Point Rider. She placed third in Open Reining Horsemanship and second in Open Western Horsemanship.
Susan Guider placed fifth and Maggie Audley placed seventh in Advanced Western Horsemanship. Lauren Hual placed fourth in Novice Western Horsemanship. Stephens placed first and Amy Butler placed fourth in Intermediate II Western Horsemanship, and Stephanie Taylor placed third in Beginner Western Horsemanship.
The Hunt Seat Team also competed on the first day. Hayes placed fourth, Guider placed sixth and Stephens placed seventh in Novice Equitation. Hayes placed seventh in Novice Over Fences, and Taylor placed fifth in Beginner Walk-Trot.
The team won Western Reserve High Point Team on the second day. Hayes placed fifth in Open Reining Horsemanship and second in Open Western Horsemanship. Guider placed sixth and Audley seventh in Advanced Western Horsemanship. Stephens placed first and Hual placed fourth in Novice Western Horsemanship. Butler placed second in Intermediate II Western Horsemanship, and Taylor placed fourth in Beginner Western Horsemanship.
For the Hunt Seat Team, Spearman placed third in Intermediate Equitation. Guider placed first, Butler placed sixth and Stephens placed seventh in Novice Equitation. Stephens placed fourth in Novice Over Fences, and Taylor placed third in Beginner Walk-Trot.
“The team performed well,” said Jennifer Hoggle, Judson equine director. “This is basically a freshman team … to have done as well as they’ve done is tremendous.” (JC)
