Kidnapped workers released by militia in Sudan

KHARTOUM, Sudan — After six days of captivity in southern Sudan, two aid workers were released by a government-backed militia group and allowed to return to their homes and families. The Kenyan and German abductees were part of a food and medical aid operation in the upper Nile region of Sudan run by World Vision, a Christian humanitarian aid organization. On July 29, a militia group attacked the region near the city of Waat where relief workers were stationed. Kenyan Charles Kibbe, also employed by World Vision, was killed in the attack. Another German worker who was abducted was released unharmed on Aug. 1 into custody of United Nation workers. Andrew Omwenga and Ekkehard Forberg were released on Aug. 3.
