SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Christian school agreed to let a kindergarten student attend the last three weeks of class after her mother promised to stop working as a stripper during that time.
Christina Silvas, 24, is taking a leave of absence from her job as an exotic dancer while her daughter finishes the year at Capital Christian School, run by the 4,000-member Capital Christian Center, one of the nation’s largest Assemblies of God churches.
The school expelled the daughter after determining that her mother had violated the school’s “Christian Commitment/Philosophy” statement. Silvas, who went to work as a stripper partly to pay the $400 monthly tuition for her daughter, said she will be leaving the church and finding another school for her daughter.
She told the Sacramento Bee that she didn’t think the church’s response “was very Christ-like.”
