Teman Knight has been named director of the office of leadership and church health at the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM).
This is the new name for what has been the office of leadership and church growth. Knight’s appointment and the office name change were both approved by the SBOM, meeting in Montgomery May 19. Knight fills the position held by Edwin Jenkins for nearly 10 years before he resigned to become pastor of First Baptist Church, Athens, May 1.
Knight, who started the new position immediately, has served as an associate in the office of evangelism at the SBOM since 2001.
Sammy Gilbreath, director of the evangelism office, said, “Teman Knight is a team player and will continue to be a blessing to Alabama Baptists as he develops strategy, trains, motivates and equips pastors and churches to be all they can be for our Lord and His Kingdom work.”
As director of the office of leadership and church health, Knight will facilitate the development of church and association leaders. He will work under the SBOM executive director, Rick Lance.
“Teman knows Alabama Baptist life,” Lance said. “He has the intellectual acumen and relationship skills we need to create new ministries and cultivate new ground.”
Before coming to the SBOM, Knight served as pastor of York Terrace Baptist Church, Sheffield. He also serves as an adjunct professor with the Birmingham extension of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
A native of Louisiana, Knight holds a doctorate of philosophy and master of divinity from New Orleans Seminary. He and his wife, Darlana, have two children.
“It has been my privilege to be one of your state missionaries,” Knight said. “This is home to us. I count this a privilege to continue doing this long-term.” (TAB)
