Labor group opposes activists’ imprisonment

OTTAWA — The Christian Labor Association of Canada is protesting the imprisonment of six Christian labor leaders in Cuba.

“Their crime?” asks the association. “Working for human rights and civic freedoms.”  The prison terms for the Cuban activists, most of whom represent the Consejo Unitario de Trabajadores Cubanos trade union range from 15 to 26 years, the association points out.

It said the Castro regime arrested almost 80 dissidents in a massive crackdown on pro-democracy activists last year.
