Lafitte marks centennial with packed house

Lafitte Baptist Church, Saraland, recently celebrated its 100th anniversary with a packed house.

The celebrations began Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. with music by The Kendricks and chalk art by Darrell Jennings. September 24 festivities included a 6:30 p.m. concert with music by former staff and members along with the adult choir.

Former pastor Grant Barber shared a message during the 10:30 a.m. service Sept. 25 and J. Clement Casey, Ted Mashburn, Chip Travis, Jonathan Hill and Tammy Anderson shared memories of the church from years past. Special music was performed by Clyde Risen and Cason Martin led the congregational singing.

Jim Swedenburg, director of the office of Cooperative Program and stewardship development for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, presented the Mobile Baptist Association church with a certificate to commemorate its anniversary, as well as a certificate on behalf of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission. (Compiled by the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission and TAB)
