As the bivocational pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, Collinsville, Daniel Lawson works hard to divide his attention among his family, church and job as production control manager at Yachiyo Manufacturing of Alabama, a Honda supplier in Steele. His desire to see lost people come to know the Lord keeps him knocking on doors and visiting in the community every Tuesday night.
Q: When were you led into the ministry?
A: I announced the Lord’s calling on my life to preach when I was 18 years old at New Hope Baptist Church in Geraldine.
Q: What does the ministry demand?
A: A calling from God, the gifts of patience and compassion, the desire to study and grow and a heart for evangelism and missions.
Q: How do family members support you?
A: I could not effectively do what God’s called me to do without my wife. I could not have chosen a better partner in this journey than the one God chose for me.
Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: The blessings of seeing people go from accepting Christ to growing in His grace. … It is truly a blessing to serve and see people that you witnessed to not only receiving Christ but also becoming grounded, fruitful servants of Christ leading others to Him.
Q: What difference will this ministry make for you in the future?
A: “To live is Christ but to die is gain.” Although I know the future may hold many challenges and even some heartaches, I know that every facet of my life is blessed with the knowledge of Christ as my Lord and Savior and heaven will be my home when I leave this world.
