Lebanon Baptists pray for healing

Following the assassination of former President Rafik al-Hariri in Lebanon, Baptist leaders there ask for prayer that the situation will not deteriorate into civil war. They also request prayer for the recovery of the deputy member of Parliament and former Minister of the Economy, Basil Fleihan, sole representative of the Protestant Church in the Lebanese Parliament.

Fleihan was severely injured in the attack that killed Hariri Feb. 14. He is now in France for medical care.

“Once again, our country and people have been the victim of a terrorist attack,” said Nabil Costa, Baptist leader of the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development.

Last September, Costa led the group of Lebanese Baptists that welcomed delegates of the European Baptist Federation (EBF) to that country for the EBF annual meeting.

“Pray God gives the Lebanese people wisdom that they do not react negatively to this huge loss that befell us,” Costa said. “Christians in that area have a strategic role in the region.”
