Leo Dudley Wilson, retired pastor of the now closed Hillcrest Baptist Church, Mobile, died Jan. 12. He was 90.
Over the years, Wilson served churches in Kentucky, Alabama and Texas and founded Northminster Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi.
Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree from Howard College (now Samford University), a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a doctorate from San Francisco Theological Seminary. He also did post-graduate work at Yale University and Oxford University.
He served on the board of trustees at Judson College in Marion and various other Baptist and civic organizations and was a lifelong advocate of civil rights and social justice.
Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Inez, and his daughter, Frances. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia and Elizabeth; son, Jeffrey Scott; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
