Lindsay Lane Baptist Church, Athens, in Limestone Baptist Association made its 20th anniversary Sept. 7 a time for “Celebrating the Past and Building for the Future.”
“We talked about the past, how God’s blessed us and how we’ve grown,” said Dusty McLemore, pastor of the church since 1992. “Then, we talked about the future and I shared how the best years of Lindsay Lane are still ahead.”
McLemore said the anniversary service included video testimonies from six of the church’s 24 charter members.
Phillip Schrimsher, who served as pastor 1990–1991, delivered the message during the celebration. Also attending the service was the church’s founding pastor, Phil Daws, who served 1988–1990. McLemore pointed out that the church was built on faith and emphasized the importance of continuing that vision. He noted that church membership grew to approximately 65 in 1990, before declining to 32 in 1992. That year — 1992 — also marked the beginning of an upswing in the church’s membership that has continued. “God started blessing it and challenging the people to catch the vision and they did,” McLemore said. As a result, the church began to grow.
“We’re still growing,” he continued. “We’re in a growing area, and we’re still baptizing over a hundred a year.” Today, the church’s regular Sunday morning worship attendance is approximately 1,200. About 1,300 participated in the anniversary celebration.
