John Frank Lindsey, a former Alabama Baptist pastor, died Oct. 5. He was 83.
Born in Andalusia, Lindsey served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946, graduated from Auburn University and Troy State University (now Troy University) and received a master of divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He served as pastor of Beatrice Baptist Church (1953–1955); County Line Baptist Church, Enterprise (1956–1958); Hillcrest Baptist Church, Enterprise (1959–1964); First Baptist Church, Headland (1965–1970); Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Montgomery (1970–1978); and Jackson Way Baptist Church, Huntsville (1978–1990).
After retiring in 1990, Lindsey returned to Montgomery and served as interim pastor of a number of churches. In addition to his many pastorates, he was a moderator for Coffee, Judson and Montgomery Baptist associations.
From the 1960s to 1994, Lindsey served as a volunteer for the stewardship department (now called Cooperative Program and stewardship development) of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, including serving as a consultant with the Together We Build and Challenge to Build programs.
Lindsey also was a member of the executive board of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, representing Coffee (1963–1966) and Judson (1966–1971) associations, and the board of directors of Montgomery Baptist Medical Center from 1973 to 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita; two sons; and six grandchildren. (TAB)
