Lineville Church pastor Colquett celebrates 25 years

Pastor Jerry Colquett never dreamed he would be at Lineville Baptist Church for 25 years, but now he cannot imagine having been anywhere else. “I’ve always felt so blessed to be associated with the quality of leadership at this church,” Colquett said. “(I’m) grateful to the church for the opportunity to serve this community and church for these years.”

The Opp native accepted the call of the Carey Baptist Association church in 1984, nine years after graduating from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

In Colquett’s time at the church, he has overseen two major building projects — the renovation of the auditorium and church property in 1989 and the addition of a family ministry building, which was completed in 2004.

Colquett also has seen his methods of ministry change. To begin with, he emphasized door-to-door evangelism and outreach. Today the church focuses on ministries like the Judgement House and Upward basketball.

Through it all, Colquett’s wife, Carolyn, has served faithfully at his side, teaching Sunday School, working in Vacation Bible School and most recently, cooking for Wednesday night supper, among other things.

E.Z. Benefield, who has been a member of Lineville Baptist for 35 years, praised the leadership of Colquett and his wife. “Brother Jerry is as good a pastor as you could ask for, and his wife, Carolyn, is right by his side,” he said. “I don’t want to do without him.”
