Lives changed at Carbon Hill Sportsman’s Banquet

Lions, leopards and bears — oh yes.

This was the response of First Baptist Church, Carbon Hill, as 90 men came to the church-sponsored Sportsman’s Banquet at the Carbon Hill High School cafeteria Aug. 15 to hear Paige Patterson, president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, speak about hunting wild game in Africa.

The Walker Baptist Association church, which had been planning this event for the past year, began the banquet by serving buffalo, elk and deer burgers and deer stew. After the meal, Patterson presented a slideshow of the game he has hunted — lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippopotamuses and grizzly bears — and shared personal hunting stories as well as a message.

Pastor Scott McCullar said the purpose of the banquet was “to reach lost men of Carbon Hill.”

And it did. Thirteen men made decisions for Christ.
