Although the “age of the ram and the goat” in Daniel 8 has historically been considered a reference to Alexander the Great’s military campaign against Persia, the author of “Living in the Age of the Ram and the Goat” takes the position that the events are yet to come — and will unfold, in fact, in our lifetimes.
Taking on long-recognized biblical scholars is a bold move for Thompson, but the author presents his case confidently, verse by verse, as he lays out his belief that the Bible predicts the rise of the Kurds to power in Iran, the weakening of the United States as a military power in August of 2020, and a Greek Secretary General of the United Nations. Thompson believes the tribulation period will occur between 2014 and 2031.
Having lived through the “Late, Great Planet Earth” period in the 1970s, I find myself reading modern interpretations of biblical prophecy with a raised eyebrow, at least. For those who were not jaded by that period — and perhaps even for those who were — the book is interesting speculation, and may well have some merit as another way to look at some of the events described in Daniel.
