Charles Wynn Davis, 93, of Huntsville, died Jan. 29.
A native of Rock Run, Alabama, Davis was a graduate of Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
For 10 years, he served as founding president of Brewer State Junior College in Alabama (now Bevill State Community College) and received a doctor of humanities degree from Livingston University (now University of West Alabama) in recognition of his leadership at Brewer State, as president of the Alabama Junior College Council of Presidents and for his role in helping to establish the junior college system in Alabama.
Most of his life was spent in Christian ministry, serving as pastor of several churches including Fayette First Baptist Church, Grace Church in Tuscaloosa and Highland Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. He served as a missionary to Costa Rica, Venezuela and Chile.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances; sons, C. Paul Davis, J. Mark Davis and Stephen M. Davis; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Davis was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville.
