Willie Byron Parker, a longtime hospital chaplain in the Dothan area, died June 3. He was 85.
Parker was the full-time chaplain at Southeast Alabama Medical Center (now called Southeast Health) in Dothan for 35 years until he retired in 2016.
He was pastor of South Lena Baptist Church in Dothan; First Baptist Church Gordon; and Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church in Gordon. He also was on the board of directors for the Dothan Rescue Mission. He was named the Alabama Baptist Minister of the Year in 1993.
Parker was a member of Dothan’s Southside Baptist Church.
Preceding Parker in death are his parents, Burrell and Charlotte Parker, formerly of Donalsonville, Georgia, and his wife of 49 years, Patricia Kay Williams Parker of Dothan, Alabama.
He is survived by two children and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church in Dothan. Visitation will be June 6 from noon to 2 p.m. at the church. At 4:30 p.m., the interment will be held at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville, Georgia. The family requests donations be made to the Missions Fund of Southside Baptist Church, 423 East Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
