After more than 40 years in the ministry, M.J. “Buddy” Strickland has retired.
For 28 years, Strickland served as pastor of churches in Alabama, including Five Points Baptist, Ider, and Dutton Baptist, both in Sand Mountain Baptist Association, and Union Grove Baptist, Crossville, in DeKalb Baptist Association, and two churches in Tennessee.
He went on to serve 12 years as director of missions (DOM) for Sequatchie Valley Baptist Association in Whitwell, Tenn. Strickland retired from that position in 2006 and moved back to Alabama to be near his grandchildren but came out of retirement to serve as pastor of New Friendship Baptist Church, Arab, in Marshall Baptist Association.
“I feel like the Lord has something else for me now,” he said of his retirement from New Friendship Baptist. That “something else” is working as a transitional interim pastor. “I have the desire and experience to work with churches going through storms,” Strickland said.
He is now available to serve as interim pastor/DOM, supply preacher or revival speaker. Strickland lives with his wife, Laura, in Arab and may be reached at 256-586-0203.
