Loomis joins State Board as youth consultant

Keith Loomis, formerly an associate with the North American Mission Board (NAMB), has been elected as the key youth ministry consultant for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM).

Loomis joined the SBOM staff Jan. 1 as part of the office of collegiate and student ministries.

“We are delighted to have Keith as the state missionary who will serve as out ‘point person’ for youth ministries,” said Rick Lance, executive director, who recommended Loomis’ election to the state executive committee. “His assignment is strategic, and his background makes him uniquely and thoroughly qualified for this ministry.”

Loomis had worked at NAMB since 1997 and had also served as associate director of World Changers for the Brotherhood Commission from 1995 to 1997.

He formerly worked in youth ministries and related areas at Heritage Baptist Church, Montgomery; Terrace Acres Baptist Church, White Settlement, Texas; and Redland Baptist Church, Wetumpka.

Loomis sees youth ministry as especially vital in the dawning of the 21st century. “I believe we are in a time when God is calling out his generation like non before. They are responding with passion and commitment. These days are challenging and exciting in youth ministry through our local churches.”

Mike Nuss, director of collegiate and student ministries, said the youth consultant position was created in response to feedback from Alabama Baptist. “Pastors, youth ministers and directors of missions told us they wanted a state missionary coordinator for student ministry,” Nuss said. “With a love for students and student ministers, Keith will help our churches reach and disciple middle and high school students.”

Loomis earned a master of arts in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a bachelor of science in business administration from Auburn University at Montgomery. He and his wife, Kathy, have three sons: Kyle, Kaleb and Karson.
