The recent flooding in Indonesia has resulted in more than 200,000 people being displaced from their homes. Some of these families — who had very little of the world’s good to start with — lost everything. Pray that the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of these people will be provided for. Also, pray that the outpouring of Christian love in the predominantly Muslim country will open many new doors to share the good news of the Savior who came so that all people could have life through Him.
Maggie recently traveled with other students, teachers and some parents to Ikebukuro Station — a busy train station in downtown Tokyo — to feed the homeless people who spend the night there. The station employees allow the homeless people to spend the night in the station to get out of the winter cold, but make them leave early in the morning. Maggie’s group fed the homeless before they left the station.
Pray that through this ministry, many homeless people will experience God’s love. Also, pray that Maggie and the other students will grow in their compassion for other people and in their desire to impact the world for Christ.
The year also opened with a nationwide campaign on Japanese television titled “Power for Living.” The campaign featured testimonies by four well-known Christians with contact information for people to receive follow-up materials. However, strong public protest resulted in the commercials being taken off the air after only a few weeks. This situation has reminded us once again that even today there are severe limitations to religious freedom and free speech in Japan.
Please pray that the barriers to the gospel in Japanese culture and society will be broken down. Pray that Christians will have greater freedom to share their faith. Pray that they will have boldness to share their faith.
Also, pray that opposition to Christianity in Japan will be replaced with a hunger for the truth that has the power to set people free (John 8:32).
