Marriage conference set May 11-12

First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, will sponsor a marriage conference, “Toward a Growing Marriage,” May 11-12.

The speaker is Gary Chapman, author of “The Five Love Languages,” “The Five Love Languages for Children” and “The Five Signs of a Loving Family.” His latest releases are “Parenting Your Adult Children” and “The Other Side of Love: Handling Anger in a Godly Way.”

The first session begins Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a break before the second session and benediction.

Five sessions are planned for the conference on Saturday, which begins at 9 a.m. and includes a sack lunch participants are asked to bring with them. The conference is scheduled to conclude at 2:30 p.m.

Chapman said the conference will help individuals gain insights to help them prepare for marriage, become equipped to help others who are married and give them a better perspective on how to have fulfilling relationships. Topics include “My Mate Won’t Talk,” “He Thinks He’s Always Right,” “If My Wife Would Just Shape Up,” “I Don’t Love Her Anymore,” “My Wife Thinks Money Grows on Trees,” “All He Thinks About is Sex” and “How to Avoid the Things That Bug You.”

“The seminar is filled with lots of humor and practical insights based on sound biblical principles,” Chapman said. “If a marriage is not growing, it is in danger of regressing.”

The seminar will reference Scripture to address the purpose of marriage, effective communication and initiating change in marriage.

Chapman added that he believes strong marriages are the foundation of “strong, growing churches reaching others for Christ.”

“it is my desire to see couples experience all that God had in mind when He instituted marriage,” Chapman said.

He said insights gained at conference will help those attending minister more effectively their family and friends.
