Mary Johnston Shaw — wife of Mike Shaw, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, Pelham — died July 10 from multiple myeloma.
For five decades, she served alongside her husband in ministry, including 35 years at First, Pelham. Her faith “led her to become a lifelong disciple and soul-winner,” he said. She also served on the Samford University board of trustees.
In the hours following her death, friends and family took to Facebook to share memories of Shaw from choir camps to parties to piano lessons. She had a “sweet gentle spirit,” Amanda Parker Martin wrote. “She loves the Lord fiercely and wants everyone she meets to know Him too.”
Carole Walker Trimble said Shaw “has this way of making you feel like the most important person in the world whether she’s talking to you, laughing with you, crying with you, or mentoring you.”
Linda Maxwell Dillon called her “an inspiration” who “embodies everything a true servant of the Lord should be.
