Mashburn, Charles Oren

Charles Oren Mashburn, a well-known evangelist, author and biblical lecturer, died Nov. 10. He was 85.
A native of Gadsden, Mashburn received his education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C.; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.; Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif.; and Union Seminary in New York.

As a student at Southern Seminary, he felt a call to world missions and throughout his life, answered that call by traveling internationally to preach in Thailand, Japan, China, Europe and Russia.

After serving as a fellow professor in church history and homiletics at Golden Gate Seminary, Mashburn served as pastor of churches in California and Tennessee, on the faculty at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga and as executive vice president of Baptist Evangelistic Schools of Texas. He authored two books and produced prophetic films of the Bible lands and international missions locations.

At the time of his death, Mashburn was a member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church, Gadsden, in Etowah Baptist Association.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maxine; two children; and four grandchildren. (TAB)
