For 50 years Dicky McAllister has spent his time and energy serving God’s people.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Slocomb, McAllister was recognized for his service by the church, Geneva Baptist Association and the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission during a special reception June 28.
McAllister was called to the ministry in 9th grade, he said, but didn’t surrender until he was a senior in high school in 1965. He was licensed by First, Slocomb, in March of that year and began preaching a week later.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and a master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. McAllister served as pastor of Bethesda Baptist Church, Slocomb; New Teamon Baptist Church, Slocomb; and two churches in Mississippi.
In 1981 he was called to be the director of missions for Geneva Baptist Association, a role he’s held for 34 years.
McAllister has two children and four grandchildren.
