Mike McLemore is the new executive director of missions (DOM) for Birmingham Baptist Association (BBA). Elected unanimously by the BBA executive board Jan. 26, he will begin his new role Feb. 12.
A former president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, McLemore has served as pastor of Birmingham’s Lakeside Baptist Church for more than 23 years. He also served as associate pastor and youth pastor at Lakeside Baptist before becoming pastor.
"We are as excited as we can be about this," said Gary Fisher, chairman of the BBA DOM search committee and director of church/faith relations for Birmingham’s Baptist Health System. "Mike’s leadership at the association will strengthen our work and ministries.
"Everyone in the state of Alabama knows Mike. He has a reputation of honesty and of being fair. He is a man of integrity. He is someone who can assume the role with instant credibility."
McLemore said he holds a deep appreciation for pastors, church staff members and lay leaders.
"(My wife) Wanda and I are excited about the privilege of working with the pastors and staff of our churches," he said. "We are going to be their biggest cheerleaders and supporters.
"I’m looking forward to visiting in the churches and seeing what their needs are."
McLemore, who is chairman of the board for The Alabama Baptist and Alabama Citizens Action Program, has served in numerous state convention roles.
A graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, he has a master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and an honorary doctorate from the University of Mobile.
The McLemores have three children and three grandchildren. (TAB)
