Sharon Bowie, a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Jasper, in Walker Baptist Association, led about 15 Alabama Baptists on a medical missions trip to Honduras May 1–9 with the nonprofit AHMEN (Alabama Honduran Medical/Educational Network). While in Limon, Honduras, the missions team worked with the Carolina Honduras Health Foundation.
For team member Ruth Raudabaugh, a member of Meek Baptist Church, Arley, in Winston Baptist Association, this was her first experience with medical missions. She helped with the eye clinic, during which the medical team fitted close to 200 people with prescription eyeglasses. The team also did malaria testing and in one day, found 63 percent of the patients from a nearby village had malaria.
