Spoken For
INO Records
MercyMe has emerged from being a good worship band to being at the forefront of worship music in the contemporary Christian genre. With the unprecedented success of “I Can Only Imagine,” the band has been transformed into the American version of Delirious. They have become the standard by which contemporary worship music is evaluated. Though their newest album may not contain a repeat performance of “I Can Only Imagine,” it does prove that they have more staying power than just a one-hit wonder.
This album is decidedly more cohesive in terms of the band’s sonority. MercyMe has had many years to hone their sound and has finally achieved a polished sound that simply enhances their message. “Spoken For” begins with the upbeat “The Change Inside of Me” and “All the Above” before diving head first into the title track, a stirring reminder of the bond that exists between God and His people. Other highlights include “Come One, Come All,” a driving call to worship, and the mission minded “Go.”
“Spoken For” is by far MercyMe’s best album to date. Track for track, the album is polished both musically and lyrically. The band’s focus on worship remains unchanged, but this project marks new territory for MercyMe.
