This is Your Time (Reunion)
After almost two decades in the Christian music industry, Michael W. Smith continues to share a youthful understanding of the Christian experience. “This Is Your Time,” Smith’s 13th album, is bound together with themes of faith, hope and love as well as a call to live out our faith with boldness.
The title cut for this album was inspired by Cassie Bernall, a student killed for confessing her faith in God during the tragedy at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo. “It was her time, and now I believe it’s our time to pick up the torch and live our faith boldly,” said Smith.
The album begins with the Welsh instrumental piece entitled “Rince DJ,” meaning “God’s Dance.” The songs “I Will Be Your Friend” and “I Will Carry You” emphasize the importance of friendship, a topic Smith has always bee committed to conveying through his music. From the upbeat proclamation of “Worth It All” to the intimate admonitions of “Anna,” Smith communicates an understanding of God’s grace in every track.
Smith collaborated with several friends to assemble the songs on This Is Your Time. Smith shared song-writing responsibilities with well-known artists such as Cindy Morgan, Chris Rice, Wes King and Jars of Clay’s Dan Haseltine. The result is a collection of songs that encourage the believer to pursue the goal of Christ in the midst of both good times and bad times.
Michael W. Smith is no stranger to fans of contemporary Christian music. Throughout his career, he has continued to edify other believers and encourage them as they grow in their faith. This Is Your Time continues in that vein, offering a challenge for us, as believers, to live a life that is not ashamed of the gospel.
