Michigan Baptists elect new director

The Baptist State Convention of Michigan elected Bobby Gilstrap, director of missions for Huron and Southeastern Baptist associations in Michigan, as its fourth executive director. Gilstrap will succeed Michael Collins, who is retiring at the end of December after 16 years of service to the Michigan convention.

Alabama Baptists have worked with Collins since 2007 when they began a partnership with Michigan and look forward to continuing that with Gilstrap as the Michigan partnership was extended to 2012 by messengers to the Alabama Baptist State Convention annual meeting Nov. 16–17.

“I’ve been here 10 years and love it,” Gilstrap said of his time in the state.

Gilstrap earned a doctor of ministry degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo., a master of divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and an associate’s degree from Brewton-Parker College in Georgia.

Throughout 29 years of ministry, Gilstrap has been pastor of four churches and an associate pastor of several others and he started a couple of photography businesses. Gilstrap and his wife, Brenda, have two sons, Robert and Andrew. (BP, TAB)
