Lambert Mims, a former Alabama Baptist State Convention (ABSC) president, died Nov. 24. He was 78.
A longtime member and deacon of Riverside Baptist Church, Mobile, in Mobile Baptist Association, Mims served in a number of community and ministry positions.
After serving as first vice president of the ABSC, Mims was elected president in 1970. During this time, he served as commissioner of public works for the city of Mobile and previously as Mobile’s mayor.
Mims also served as president of the Baptist Men’s Organization for Alabama Baptists and Dads Against Dirt, a nonsectarian organization that sought legal and moral action against pornography.
More recently, Mims served as director of the men’s ministry of Mobile Association and on the board of directors for the Waterfront Rescue Mission in Mobile.
Mims is survived by his wife, Reecie; two sons; and two granddaughters. (TAB)
