Ministering to bikers

Ministering to bikers

I am writing concerning the March 12 article on motorcycle ministries in The Alabama Baptist.

I wish to inform, caution and congratulate the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) for including motorcycle ministry in the state’s Intentional Evangelism strategy by accepting the F.A.I.T.H. Riders motorcycle ministry.

I do not know if you are aware that the Bikers for Christ Motorcycle Ministry is doing a very good job in Birmingham with ministering to the “hard-core” bikers in the Motorcycle Clubs (MC) there.

Additionally, from your article, I am assuming that the ministry will be involved with the average “Joe Blow” motorcycle rider and not the hard-core MC member. However, should they wish to step into the hard-core world of MCs, I would like to offer a word of caution.

In our four years of serving only MCs, we have learned it takes time and work to earn their respect and trust. Also you do not want to approach an MC member and start preaching to him.

I hope that the SBOM will have much success in this endeavor to reach motorcyclists and that the F.A.I.T.H. Riders will take their time to build a relationship with the hard-core bikers and include them in their ministry.
