Rebecca Leigh Roemen of Demopolis, the reigning “Miss Judson College,” participated in the “Miss Alabama” pageant recently.
Roemen was crowned “Miss Judson College” on Feb. 7 by the outgoing “Miss Judson” Emily Miles of Einfield. Al talented vocalist, she sang the show tune, “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” at the Judson event. Her platform for both competitions was “Children’s Literacy: A Ticket For A Brighter Tomorrow.”
Roemen believes that literacy helps children expand their knowledge and helps them create new ideas.
She worked with the National Education Association’s “Read Across America” program March 3, and currently assists the summer reading program at the Marion and Perry County Library.
“I’m concentrating my efforts here in Perry County,” Roemen said. “The people here are so responsive and so appreciative. I’ve enjoyed working with Mrs. Mary Jo Brown at the library this summer.”
Roemen enjoyed participating in the Miss Alabama pageant that was held at Samford University.
“It has been a wonderful experience to be associated with the Miss Alabama program, Roeman said.
“They keep telling us that we are 50 women of 900 who competed, so we should be honored, and I am,” she added.
Roemen, a member of First Baptist Church, Demopolis, has worked in children’s Sunday School and often sings in worship services.
The 22-year-old is a Judson senior interdisplinary majoring in business, art, fashion and music. She plans to be an interior decorator after she graduates.
