NEW YORK — Hostage missionaries Martin and Gracia Burnham are alive, but in deteriorating health, according to officials of the New Tribes Mission (NTM) agency who viewed a recent interview with the captive couple.
The Burnhams were featured in an exclusive interview broadcast on Philippine television Nov. 25 that was videotaped by a local cable station camera crew. They were interviewed by freelance reporter Arlyn de la Cruz.
They remain in the custody of the Abu Sayyaf, a militan Islamic organization operating in the Philippines.
Abu Sayyaf reportedly has ties to terrorist Osama Bin Laden. The Burnhams, missionaries since 1985, were taken hostage by the rebels May 27.
The rebels also captured a group of native Filipinos.
