Missions summits to offer trip-planning resources

A series of identical events will be conducted during September to help Alabama Baptists learn about help available for planning missions trips and selecting dates for travel to partner locations Ukraine, Guatemala and Michigan.

“Missions summits are an opportunity for persons with passions for missions to gather and to see where God leads through the partnerships of Alabama Baptists,” said Reggie Quimby, director of the office of global partnerships and volunteers in missions for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM).
Attendees will hear testimonies from Alabama teams that have served and missionaries who serve in the various partner locations.

Dates and locations for the summits include: Sept. 6, First Baptist Church, Montgomery; Sept. 10, Lakeside Baptist Church, Birmingham; Sept. 11, Jackson Way Baptist Church, Huntsville; Sept. 13, Woodward Avenue Baptist Church, Muscle Shoals; Sept. 17, West Mobile Baptist Church, Mobile; Sept. 18, First Baptist Church, Enterprise; and Sept. 20, Indian Lake Baptist Church, Northport.

“Missions partnerships are invaluable in coordinating efforts of churches and associations throughout the state,” said Mel Johnson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Geraldine, who has traveled to Ukraine with other Alabamians participating in the partnership.

Rick Lance, SBOM executive director, encouraged Alabama Baptists to take advantage of the summits and the partnerships.

“This is yet another way Alabama Baptists can be on mission with the Great Commission,” Lance said. “I would encourage Alabama Baptists leaders to join in the sharing time in one of these regional summits.”
Quimby encouraged state Baptists also to take advantage of what the global partnerships and volunteers in missions office has to offer.

“We serve Alabama Baptists through helping plan the logistics of missions experiences,” Quimby explained. “Our office provides such services as helping with travel plans, orientation and explanation of insurance options.”
