Missions teams witness locally, overseas

Fifty-two youth and adults from Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Albertville, traveled to Dauphin Island June 11–18 to participate in Upward Basketball camps, minister in drug-rehabilitation programs, tutor in summer programs and paint and move wood and materials for a deck. The youth also sang and presented dramas. The group saw 24 decisions made.

A team of six from Mount Vernon Baptist traveled to Cagua, Venezuela, July 18–24. Working with Primera Iglesia Bautista De Cagua (First Baptist Church of Cagua), they saw 153 decisions made.

 

Missions teams from across the state traveled to Union Springs this summer to help with repair and maintenance work on Conecuh Springs Christian School, an outreach ministry of First Baptist Church, Union Springs.

A team of nine from Aliceville Baptist Church, Carrollton Baptist Church and West End Baptist Church, Aliceville, worked June 12–17. Ten from Highland Baptist Church, Union Grove, worked June 15–17. First Baptist Church, Killen, sent 81 people July 9–15, and Southside Baptist Church, Dothan, sent six people Aug. 12–13.

The team from First, Killen, also conducted a sports and music camp that had an enrollment of 270 children with 37 decisions recorded.

Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Etowah Baptist Association and M-Power Ministries sponsored Kids Day on the Farm June 16, a field trip to the country for inner city children.

Members of Walnut Grove Baptist prepared the farm for the arrival of 40 people from M-Power.

The day’s activities included a hayride around the farm to look at more than 200 head of cattle and four chicken houses, a moon walk, a picnic and fishing. All of the children received a Bible and God Strong bracelet with Ephesians 6:10–11 on it. The church also presented M-Power with school supplies, a VCR/DVD player and a television.

 

Etowah Baptist Association sent a construction team to Neeses Baptist Church, Neeses, S.C., in late June.

Forty-two men, women and children representing White Springs Baptist Church, Rainbow City; Southside Baptist Church; First Baptist Church, Southside; Walnut Park Baptist Church, Gadsden; and Siberton Baptist Church, Attalla, erected walls around and put a roof on the slab of concrete that will become the church’s 3,600-square-foot fellowship hall.

During their time in Neeses, some volunteers also assisted with backyard Bible clubs.

 

Moulton Baptist Church sponsored a missions trip to Pittsburgh in July. Thirty-three people from Moulton Baptist worked on a building renovation project with Carrone Baptist Church, an older black church in the inner city recently affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.

 

A team of 21 from First Baptist Church, Prattville, traveled to Maracaibo, Venezuela, July 4–11. Bible School was held in the mornings, and in the afternoons, team members did house-to-house evangelism and held block parties. A ladies conference, a marriage conference and a True Love Waits conference were held in the evenings.

More than 500 people received Bibles, evangel cubes and power bracelets with 131 making decisions for Christ. This is the fourth year that a team from First, Prattville, has taken a missions trip to Maracaibo.
