St. Louis – As it faces the fallout of one of the largest budget cuts in its history, the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod has offered early retirement to 90 workers. The workers at the LCMS international office, headquartered near St. Louis, had until Sept. 3 to make their decisions.
The early retirement option, offered to employees age 55 and up who have completed at least five years of service, is just one way the LCMS is trying to offset $9.1 million in budget cuts from requests submitted but the Synod’s various departments and program boards.
The budget for the new fiscal year that began July 1 is about $10 million less than the previous year’s budget.
