Mary Morton says it still gives her chills when she thinks about a new event Mobile Baptist Network held recently — a banquet for international women.
“It came across my mind last fall, and I was just so excited to see how the Lord blessed it,” she said.

About 150 women attended the event Sept. 14 at Spring Hill Baptist Church, with representatives from different people groups decorating their tables to showcase their culture.
A number of churches were involved, including Laos Baptist Church; two Vietnamese congregations, New Life International and Vietnamese Obedience Baptist Church; a Korean congregation called International Baptist Church; and several Spanish-speaking congregations, Conectados con Jesus, Friendship Hispanic, 3 Circle Hispanic and 1-10 Church.
‘Open door’
Carolyn Battle, disaster relief coordinator for MBN, spoke on the topic of “Joy in my Journey” based on Nehemiah 8:10. Before her message, two volunteers shared their testimonies.
“One from Vietnam, and she was absolutely wonderful,” Morton said. “Everyone was mesmerized by her story.”
Morton — whose husband, Bobby, works with language congregations for MBN — said the 85 countries and 45 language groups represented in the Mobile area offer an incredible opportunity for the gospel to be shared.
“It really is an open door — it’s just taking the time to see what’s open,” she said.
