Montgomery abortion clinic closes after several violations

MONTGOMERY — The Beacon Women’s Center in Montgomery, one of Alabama’s seven women’s clinics that offers abortions, closed in June after health inspectors discovered numerous violations, according to The Associated Press (AP).

The Montgomery clinic gave up its license, ceased performing abortions June 11 and closed all operations by June 18 after it came under an agreement with the Alabama Department of Health on June 8, AP reported.

An official with the health department said violations included performing abortions without sedation and failing to get parental consent for minors seeking abortion.

This is not the only Alabama abortion clinic that has had problems with violating state laws in recent months.

The Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Birmingham was put on probation by the health department in February after it violated multiple state laws, including performing illegal abortions on minors.
