This weekend, Flatline Church at Chisholm is hosting a men’s conference, and Pastor Dewayne Rembert said it couldn’t come at a more critical time.
“Our communities face unprecedented challenges — ranging from crime, disintegration of the family structure, to economic struggles — that demand the rise of strong, godly men,” Rembert said.
The majority of Montgomery’s population is African-American, and “this urban context gives this men’s conference a unique opportunity to address the issues facing our neighborhoods and families,” he said.
The conference, called Control, will be a “call to action,” and all men of all backgrounds are invited, Rembert said. The event will start Friday night (Jan. 17) at 6 p.m. and run through Sunday (Jan. 19).
Featured speakers will be:
- Jan. 17 — Darius White, a minister from Huntsville
- Jan. 18 — Kenneth Petty, pastor of The Gate Church in St. Louis, Missouri
- Jan. 19 — Stephen Wiley, pastor of Praise Center Family Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Breakout sessions will be led by Rembert; Rod L. Brown, minister from Victorville, California; and Deandre Burns, associate pastor of Flatline.
“The event will feature speakers and leaders from various cultural backgrounds, each bringing a unique perspective and powerful insights into what it means to be a man of God in today’s world,” Rembert said. “Together, we will explore how to take our rightful place as godly men who impact our cities, families and congregations for the glory of God.”
