Mount Zion pastor marks 50 years in ministry

Sammie Reid knew at age 21 that God was calling him to be a pastor, and it’s a calling he has been faithful to for 50 years.

Reid has served Mount Zion Baptist Church, Warrior, for the past 31 years and was honored Oct. 2 with the church naming its new children’s building after him and his late wife, Shirley.

He also has served as pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Hayden; Mount View Baptist Church, Hayden; and Zola Baptist Church, Warrior.

Reid holds a bachelor of ministry degree, master of divinity degree and doctor of ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary in Lithonia, Georgia.

Additionally, he served 19 years with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions and three years as a trustee for the North American Missions Board.

“If I had 10 lives to live I would want to live all of them as a pastor of a local Baptist church,” he said. “And I would prefer to serve in an Alabama Baptist convention church.”

Reid has two sons, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. (TAB)
