Music conference set early

The 2000 Southern Baptist Church Music Conference will be held June 8-10 at Wieuca Road Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Robert Weber, one of the nation’s leading speakers on worship music, will be the featured lecturer during the conference. Weber is the author of a series of books called, “Music and the Arts in Christian Worship.” He will speak Saturday, June 10 beginning at 8:45 a.m.

David Sapp, pastor of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta, will also be featured as a speaker and devotional leader.

This year’s conference theme, “Jesus Is the Song,” is taken from the text of Hebrews 13:8 according to the conference’s vice president, Jane Martin, Wieuca Road’s associate minister of music.

The Grammy-nominated Centurymen will headline the groups performing at this year’s conference. The Centurymen are directed by Buryl Red and will perform Friday, June 9.

Among the other performers at this year’s conference are Sons of Jubel, from Georgia; Viewmont Bell Choir, from Viewmont Baptist Church, Hickory, N.C.; senior adult choir from First Baptist Church, Clinton Miss.; South Carolina Honor Children’s Choir; South Carolina Younger Youth Singers; Carol McClure, harpist; Circle of Faith vocal ensemble; Max Lyle, pianist; and Al Washburn, organist.
