During his teenage years, Jason Crabb and his siblings began singing at church on Sunday mornings. It didn’t take long before word quickly spread about this talented family, and they began receiving invitations to perform at local churches.
They had no idea how the Lord was working and that they were embarking on a musical journey that would lead them to performing in sold-out venues across the country and receiving Grammy nominations, Dove Awards and No. 1 hit songs on national radio charts.
But despite their accolades and achievements, the Crabb Family stayed true to their humble beginnings and desired to reach people from all walks of life with the message of the gospel. With a unique blend of bluegrass, country and Southern gospel, the Crabb Family desired to bring more than “entertainment” to audiences — they desired to bring a powerful message of God’s redemption, healing and grace.
New season
After performing together for 15 years, Crabb remembers when he and his siblings felt in 2007 it was time to enter a new season.
Although Crabb was hesitant at first about performing solo, his debut album, released three years later, was well received.
Since then he has garnered numerous awards and has been presented with unique platforms as a solo artist — ranging from appearing on “The Celebrity Apprentice” to performing at Billy Graham’s final crusade in New York City.
“When God calls you to do something, you never know what He has in store and about the journey you’re going on,” Crabb told The Alabama Baptist. “Some days are great, while others are rough. Some days you get up and feel like you’re working hard but it’s not going anywhere productive. Then other days you get to celebrate when you see people coming to know the Lord. It’s a neat journey, and I’m very thankful for the ride.”
Connecting generations
Through his music and message, Crabb desires to connect all generations with the hope of the gospel. As the father of two daughters, he realizes the importance of influencing the next generation for Christ and has written a series of children’s books that follow the adventures of “Jase the Crabb,” specifically focused on sharing the gospel with young children in a fun and creative way.
In 2011, Crabb put his life story into a book, “Trusting God to Get You Through: Lessons I’ve Learned Through the Fire About Grace, Loss and Love.”
By sharing his own experiences and struggles, Crabb hopes people will resonate with both the hardships and joys and seek the Lord as their source of strength despite any circumstance or obstacle.
“Everyone walks through the fire of adversity, but whatever your experiences — joys or sorrows — our amazing God can use every bit of your life to produce the most unexpected results,” Crabb said. “I’ve learned that you have to trust God’s Word no matter what, because it’s our only lifeline.
“I’ve realized that I didn’t have much to offer on my own, but I was offering my life to the Lord and allowing Him to take control of the circumstances.”
