ABUJA, Nigeria — Muslim extremists are believed to have killed eight Nigerian Christians in separate attacks, including a woman who was cleaning a church.
Muslim Fulani herdsmen are suspected of ambushing and fatally shooting Lyop Dalyop while she cleaned at Church of Christ in Nations in Bangai village in Nigeria’s Plateau State. A source told Morning Star News that on the morning of Aug. 27 the Fulani shot the woman in the head.
One day prior, five Muslims armed with machetes killed youth service corps worker Samaila Sabo Awudu, 28, in Yola in Adamawa state. Sources say evidence appears to indicate the victim was specifically targeted.
Awudu, who had earned a biochemistry degree, was working in Yola, fulfilling the year of national development service required of university and polytechnic graduates in Nigeria.
On Sept. 1 Fulani slew six people in the predominantly Christian village of Umella in Benue State.
Morning Star News reported Christian leaders believe Fulani want to take over the land and impose Islam.
Nigeria is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian and has led the world in the number of Christians killed or abducted for their faith.
