BUGADE, Uganda — Muslims in a village in eastern Uganda killed a Christian’s pigs and tore down their church building in April, sources said.
A Muslim mob demolished the building of the 450-member Nalugondo Church of Uganda building at about midnight April 12, shouting, “We cannot live together with neighbors who are infidels. We have to fight for the cause of Allah,” according to area sources. Nalugondo village is near Bugade, Mayuge District. The demolition followed previous threats via text message to various lay leaders and members and an attack on a church leader’s pigs, the source of his income.
One threatening text said, “Let this be known to your church members that pigs are extremely unholy and an abomination before Allah, very outrageous and shameful. They are haram [forbidden] and unlawful as our holy Quran does prohibit them.”
