As Hurricane Michael bore down on us in the fall, most people scurried to make preparations for the storms’ aftermath — specifically many days without power. Supermarket shelves were suddenly wiped clean of nonperishable foods, water, matches, generators and the like. Gas stations had lines several cars deep sucking dry the underground tanks of that precious go-go juice.
Parents were regaled with questions from their offspring about the coming storm. The answer to the question “What happens when our phones/laptops/tablets die?” instilled terror in the young hearts that were seeking reassurance.
When the parents answered, “You’ll have to do without” or “We’ll have to talk to each other,” I can imagine how many horrified expressions passed over the countenance of their faces as chins hit the floor enmasse.
Can you imagine if we took Jesus’ warnings as seriously as we did the weatherman’s?
Jesus told us in John 14:1–3 that He will come back for us: “Let not your heart be troubled … I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
We don’t know when He will come and we will have no warning, so we had better be prepared.
When that trumpet sounds the dead shall rise to be with him (1 Thess. 4:16–17). My reservation of protection from any coming storms after Jesus’ return was signed in His Blood on Oct. 21, 2002. Do you have yours?
This may be your only warning.
