National Woman’s Missionary Union welcomes new staff members

Amy Boone and Lena Plunk joined the staff of national Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) on Jan. 5 as ministry consultants on WMU’s adult resource team.

Boone will be responsible for providing development, direction and leadership to WMU’s adult missions organizations, including Women on Mission, Adults on Mission and myMISSION for collegiate and young women. 

Plunk will be responsible for coordinating Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) and Christian Men’s Job Corps (CMJC), as well as connecting volunteers with missions opportunities. These include hands-on missions trips through WMU’s Missionsfest, Familyfest and International Initiatives as well as managing WMU’s Pure Water, Pure Love ministry.

“We are thrilled to welcome Amy and Lena to our staff,” said Carol Causey, director for WMU’s missions resource center. “Both of these women are well equipped to provide leadership in key areas for us.”

For the past two years, Boone has served with the Lawrence County Board of Education in Mount Hope, working with children in grades K–8 of Native American ancestry in the areas of reading and math. She and her husband, Mike, also served 14 years as missionaries with the International Mission Board in Mozambique and South Africa where she helped plant churches, train teachers, write curriculum and lead retreats and weekly Bible lessons, among other ministry opportunities.

She earned a master’s degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Samford University in Birmingham.

Since May 2013, Plunk has served as program director and satellite coordinator for the Nashville location of CWJC of Middle Tennessee. From 2003–2013, she served with the North American Mission Board through the Baptist Convention of Pennsylvania/South Jersey in a variety of roles, including ministry evangelism consultant, church planting catalyst in multihousing and web evangelism/children’s missions and ministry consultant.

Plunk holds a master’s degree in social work from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., and a bachelor’s degree from Blue Mountain College in Mississippi.

Also new to the national WMU staff is Jennifer Dodd, senior marketing strategist. In this role she will give direction to the development and execution of marketing strategies for WMU missions organizations in the church and related resources. These organizations include Mission Friends for preschoolers; Girls in Action, Royal Ambassadors and Children in Action for children; Acteens, Challenges and Youth on Mission for students; myMISSION for collegiate and young women; and Women on Mission and Adults on Mission. 

Dodd served for the past 12 years as marketing and public relations manager for Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. She earned bachelor’s degrees from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Dodd is a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church, Hoover.
